The
Southern Suburbs of Zhenjiang As a provincial scenic spot,Nanjiao
or the Southern Suburbs lies 2.5kilometres from the centre of
Zhenkiang,with a preserve of 18 square kilometres and a developed
area of 3.67 square kilometres.It sees a hilly wooded landscape
and some historisal sites. Being Characterixed by its deepness,serenity,brightness,beauty
and primitive symplicity, Nanjiao is also called a "mountain
Forest in a city". The history of Nanjiao can be dated
to the Qin Dynasties and the Ming Dynasty is believed to be
the most flourishing. Since the Six Dynasties.men of letters
and celebuities from generations,who came here either to visit
or settle down, had some precious relics built and created some
well-known work pieces. prince Zhaoming in the Liang Dynasty
invited men of letters theoughiut China to gather here, including
Liuxie, the allthir of "Wen Xin Diai Long",who compiled"Zhaoming
Literary Selection".the first literary selection in the
history of Chinese literature,in Zenghua Pavillon of Zhaoyin
Temple, as well as Mifu and his son mi Youren,two famous Chinese
traditional Painters in the Northern Song Dynasty, who later
lived here for over 40 yesrs and created"Mi shi Yun shan".
A famous sullptor and muslcian called Daiyong in seclusion and
finally composed three popular pieces of music:"Guangllng",
and"Zhixian".These people also included sushi,a great
poet in the sung Dynasty,who had the "Su Gong Bamboo Courtyard"built
in Crane Forest Temple,and Zhou Dunyi,a phylosopher and writer
in the Song Dynasty as well,who had the"Mao Shu Lotus pond"
buiot,and in addlition,Zhao Boxian(a martyt duting the Revolution
of 1911 led by Sun Yat-sen),in momory of whom the later generations
built a tomb the east of Bamboo Forest Temple.
Altogether,there are over 160 kinds of trees and over 70 kinds
of birds in Nanjiao,both outnumbering that of any other scenic
spot on either side of the Shanghai-Nanjiag Kailway.The developed
sites are Zenghua pavilion,Stone Desk for study. Ji ZU palace,Ting
Li Shan Room,Hupao Spring,Lupao Spring,Lin Gong Spring,Yijiang
Pavilion,Yurui Pavilion,Evergreen Pavilion, Liaowai Pavilion,Wenxin
Pavilion,Xuelin Riin and so forth. The "Mountain in a City"in
its totally new appearance,hopes tourists both from abroad and
at home to pay a visrt.
