The
Terrace for Reading
The
Terrace for Reading is a famous historical site, where Prince
Xiao Tong, styling himself Zhao Ming, devoted himself to reading
so as to compile The Collection of Ancient Chinese Poems and
Essays, the first one in Chinese literary history. It was first
built at the top of the hill in 520 A.D (the 1st Pu Tong year,
Liang Dynasties of the Southern Dynasties.) Later it was moved
to the present site. Inside the terrace, there used to be a
stone desk engraved with the words: The 1st Pu Tong year, ruined
during the Cultural Revolution. So what is now exhibited inside
the terrace is a replicated stone desk.
