Brief Introduction
to the City Flower
The Azalea, the city flower of
Zhenjiang, was established at the thirteenth meeting of
the Standing Committee of Zhenjiang People’s Congress on
Nov.16, 1994.
There are over 800 kinds of Azaleas, and every kind differs
from each other. The tallest one is about 25m high and the
shortest one is less than 30cm. There are mainly four colors
of azaleas—white、red、yellow and blue.
According to the blooming time and sources, they may divided
into spring azaleas、 summer azaleas、spring-summer azaleas
and western azaleas, etc. They grow well in humus soil which
is half-shaded, well-drained .
Azaleas have been planted in Zhenjiang for a long time.
They were regarded as the most famous flowers in the Zhi
Shun Annals of Zhenjiang from the Yuan Dynasty. The Zhaoyin
Azaleas Garden was originally built in 1988. Now, there
are many varieties and more than ten-thousand azaleas in
it. The garden has grown to nearly 100 mu. |
